We’ve sailed on several cruises from Cape Liberty over the years. The backdrop has always been the Manhattan Skyline. This post will document some of the changes we’ve seen.
A cloudy day in late September 2006 as we sail to Bermuda on the Celebrity Zenith. This rather grainy image was scanned from film, as at this point I had not switched entirely to digital cameras. The World Trade Center is missing from the skyline as the replacement tower had only recently had its foundations poured.
A sunny November day in 2011 and we are about to head south to the Caribbean on the new Celebrity Silhouette. The WTC is well underway but it would take another year for it to dominate the Skyline.
Another rainy day in New York City – this time October 2022. We are going to the East Coast of the US and Canada on Adventure of the Seas. The WTC is totally finished by this point.
In August we took another Caribbean cruise from Cape Liberty, but we stayed in Jersey City for a couple of days before embarkation. Here is how things looked from the Jersey side.
From the deck of Liberty of the Seas on a steamy August afternoon.
This concludes my look at the changing skyline of Manhattan from the opposite side of the river. I hope I get the opportunity to add some more photos in future.
We will take a no fly cruise to Bermuda in October, c elebrating our 60th anniversary. Any recommendations for a week in Bermuda?
If cruising to Bermuda on a larger ship you will dock at the Royal Naval Dockyard. A smaller ship may get into Hamilton.
From either place, you can take a ferry to St. George. Worth the trip. A taxi tour of the island is another possibility. Shopping is OK at the Dockyard but Hamilton is better.
We did a glass-bottom boat tour from Hamilton to see fish and the shipwreck of HMS Vixen. I think you can get that tour from the Dockyard now. Enjoy!
Thanks Ray.
