One of the problems with taking a cruise in August is the possibility of a hurricane getting in the way of your itinerary. And sure enough, this happened to us. Hurricane Ernesto churned north of the Caribbean islands and set its sights on Bermuda. Had we sailed to the Dockyard as planned we would have arrived to torrential rains, 80 knot winds, and 30 foot seas.
Royal Caribbean decided to skip Bermuda and sail directly south to the Turks and Caicos. We were to get two sea days, then two days visiting Grand Turk Island.
On our first day out we had a slight swell – enough for the more squeamish members of our party to reach for the Dramamine.
Meanwhile, back in our cabin, our stateroom attendant Anthony left this little fellow for us.
Dave and Susannah came for a visit.
Teddy and Nonna watched the sea go by.
Later on, Nonna caught up with her reading. She usually brings actual books with her instead of an e-reader. Then after she finishes the book, she donates it to the ship’s library.
On our second day we were affected more by Ernesto, we had 4-6 foot swells and a bit of rock ‘n roll. Most of this happened overnight so it wasn’t too bad.
We have seen far worse weather than this sailing down from Cape Liberty to the Caribbean in November. So although Ernesto spoiled our visit to Bermuda, we were grateful to enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures during our days at sea.
Brought 3 boxes of dramamine and came home minus 2 pills. Pretty smooth seas for sure!
