Another Anniversary

It’s 14 years ago today that we came to Almonte for the first time in our lives. The weather was a lot like it is today – clear and cold.

Some things have changed about the town, and some things are the same.

The cenotaph is still here although the railway behind it has gone.

The face of the river on the upper falls has changed forever with the new Enerdu power facility in place.

The old flour mill was quite direlect back then, but now has been renovated and serves as the base for the new powerhouse on the river.

Here is how our house looked when we put in an offer to purchase a couple of days later. It was well enough along in construction for us to see it would do.

Our future dining and family room.

The basement has changed a bit as well.

It only took us a couple of days to make up our minds to move here, and in retrospect we made a great decision. 14 years later we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else – winter or no winter.
